Floyd Mayweather posted on Twitter that his next fight will come against neither Canelo or Guerrero, but instead IBF welterweight titlist and fellow Al Haymon fighter Devon Alexander.
Being a Mayweather fan, I’ve recently come to realize that the man known as Money, only has a couple more fights left in the sport. Because of this, a buddy and I plan to make the 4 hour flight out from the East Coast to hopefully see him fight on May 4th in Las Vegas. With the recent hoopla of opponents, I’ve slowly debated about risking pushing back the trip to September when an opponent will more likely be lined up sooner. Although I have also been a fan of Devon Alexander, his story and boxing skill, an Alexander-Mayweather showdown doesn’t get me excited as I believe its premature. Alexander, who has proven that he is a good, possibly great fighter, still has not really earned the slot of a Mayweather opponent.
In my mind, the man who earned that spot is Robert Guerrero. Guerrero has made the move to 147 and dominated top opposition. Alexander, although winning his 147 fights with ease, still has not made a mark big enough to catapult him into Mayweather opposition. Guerrero recently dominated a fan friendly fight with Andre Berto. Looking at their styles, a Guerrero-Mayweather fight is one of the most fan friendly options out there.
Many may say, what about Saul Alvarez. Others may say, who has Canelo fought to earn the Mayweather spot. Canelo has been a fan friendly and exciting fighter for the past few years. He has skills and is willing to the fight the best. Not only that, but Canelo has a following that equals any other fighter in the game.
Disappointedly, if Devon Alexander is chosen for the fight, I still may make the trip out to Las Vegas depending on the undercard. I do hope that the rumor is not true, as this fight does have merit down the line and this premature match up is not the best business decision for May 4th. Let us all hope that Mayweather fights Canelo or Guerrero on May 4th and leave opponents like Alexander time to ripen and prove their spot against Mayweather.
A great thing, this man lost to Bradley. This figt is going to be a boring @$$ fight, like Leon said this fight needs a very strong undercard otherwise mayweather is gonna need to fight 4 times this year lol

I say its a great thing. This has the closest chance to be an upset like marques vs pacquiao. Guerrero and canelo do not have what it takes to take down maywheather.
