Floyd Mayweather Did More than Running

One thing I don’t understand is how some boxing fans can’t give credit when it is due. After Floyd Mayweather won a unanimous decision over Robert “Ghost” Guerrero Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, people on Twitter and Facebook kept saying it was a boring fight and that Floyd kept running around.

Guerrero’s father/trainer kept telling the media after the fight that Mayweather was a chicken as he kept running all night.

“I didn’t expect him to [move] that much but after Robert hit him the first couple of rounds – he felt it and that put him on his bicycle. I tried to tell Robert to go to the body more. He saw that Robert was going to the body and he ran more. You seen it, the last couple of rounds, he really ran. He didn’t want to exchange. All he wanted to do was win by decision. Pop and move, pop and move, all he wanted to do was win by decision. I told my son to pressure him more but when he put more pressure on him – Mayweather ran even more. How come he ran? He didn’t do that with Cotto, he didn’t do that with Ortiz, he didn’t do that with Marquez or Hatton,” Ruben told BoxingScene.com

Personally I don’t know who’s more annoying, Danny Garcia’s dad or Ruben.

The point of boxing is not to get hit. Floyd wasn’t going to stand there and let Guerrero hit him.

All three judges, Julie Lederman, Duane Ford and Jerry Roth, scored it for Mayweather, 117-111 for a reason. Floyd was able change his defense style to a move and punch technique versus his typical shoulder roll.

I was very impressed with Floys performance. Mayweather landed 41% of his punches and 60% of his power shots while Guerrero connected only 19% of his shots including only 11% of his jabs.

I don’t think Floyd “ran” as people say he did, Floyd was able to make adjustments while Guerrero couldn’t even shift out of the pre-fight game plan. Guerrero should have cut off the ring, use his jab, his upper cut and let his hands go if he really wanted to win.

Floyd was too fast for the Gilroy kid. Floyd confirmed he will be back in the ring September 14th, opponent to be announced. Floyd was also guarantee $32 million for his welterweight world-title fight against Robert Guerrero.Mayweather’s purse ties the all-time record for the largest single-fight contract in history, which he set last May for his unanimous decision win against Miguel Cotto. Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) will earn a career-high $3 million, plus a share of the pay-per-view profits.

  1. Quite frankly this whole thing has gotten way to far out of hand. First the father Ruben what a joke. At the sound of the winner with all of the trash talk and total disrespect as they say that Floyd does we did not here one peep out of his ass. Robert went in the ring and lost the fight simple. Ruben is nothing more than a media stealing thug trying to live through his son. People are now doing just what they accuse Floyd of doing but on a scale far more worse. He damn near worked his son to death in training and has no one to blame but his self. In my opinion Robert should fire his ass. Robert will be a great champion no doubt but I hope he has better people in his corner. Floyd is King of the ring and I wish him well. The Mayweather team had a good corner and they stuck to the plan in and out of the ring. Floyd was in position several times but Robert did not have the skill to get the job done.

  2. Edgar and jivaldez said it perfectly….plus im to tired to write…lol
Ruben is damn annoying, Floyd dominated, bottom line…..Robert was out of his league….and he paid for it with a loss. He couldnt handle Mayweather in any aspect once Floyd started adjusting to his gameplan.
Bottom line….You got outboxed….enjoy your paycheck

  3. It’s bad when a TRAINER can’t recognize a GREAT defense even if it hits them in the face.. It’s not called running if you’re fighter is getting hit at will by right hand leads.. It’s called a great defense and BOXING.. But I guess they were expecting Mayweather to stand there and just handover $3 million dollars… LOL!!
