Mayweather delivers a masterpiece against Robert Guerrero

At 36 years of age and a year out of the ring, Floyd Mayweather showed no signs of being an aging fighter with ring rust Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. That said, despite what many layman boxing fans may say, true boxing fans understand how impressive Mayweather was in his 44th straight victory. Subsequently, I have to say Mayweather was impressive as ever delivering a masterpiece; I think it is fitting to say he is to boxing what Pablo Picasso is to art or what Michaelangelo is to architecture. If you don’t like those references, then say he is boxing’s Michael Jordan. Everybody should understand or relate to that reference. He is essentially an artist in the ring.

Mayweather was hard to hit on Saturday night, proving the move back to his father as trainer was a wise decision for the aging fighter who is trying to prolong his career. With a 32 million dollar purse (the most lucrative single fight purse in history), who can blame him. It was a wise business move for the most business savvy fighter in boxing history. Floyd’s defense and tactical skill was near impeccable against Guerrero who showed obvious frustration throughout the 12 round domination. Guerrero came out in the first two rounds full of adrenaline and even won those rounds in my opinion. However, Floyd weathered the early storm and took things in stride for the remainder of the fight landing 60 percent of his power punches and avoiding any damage in the fight. It was very hard finding a round after the second to give Guerrero, who looked completely out of his league.

Just like many fighters before him, Guerrero was frustrated with what he found out in the ring. Mayweather was smarter than he thought, he was faster than he thought, he was craftier than he thought, and he was stronger than he thought. To the contrary of the illogical words of Ruben Guerrero, Mayweather did not run from his son. Instead, he simply outclassed his son in the ring. Mayweather cut the ring off, countering with precise right hands every time Guerrero tried to get anything going. The point of boxing is to hit and not get hit. Floyd does that better than anyone in the ring today and maybe ever. From what I remember, although I was several rows further from the action than trainer and father Ruben Guerrero, it looked like Robert was the one bleeding and landing fewer punches, hence the cut over his eye. Instead of bashing Mayweather, Ruben should be praising the performance if he hopes for his son to get another chance at the lottery. Last time I checked, you are supposed to win to hit the lottery.

It should be clear, I am not a Mayweather fan per se, but I am a fan of what he does in the ring. Aside from some of his antics outside the ring, which does bring many detractors, it’s hard to argue he is simply the best. He is willing to mix it up a bit more than earlier in his career; and with his father back at his side for his armor, I don’t know if anyone will beat him before he decides to hang up the gloves. Fight fans are calling for Canelo Alvarez, but he is not ready; not yet…… but what about for Cinco de Mayo 2014? Time will tell, but history shows, if you bet against Mayweather, you will lose.

  1. Hey he made it that far & you fight the best of the best if u want 2 be champion like Floyd is despite what others sit on the side line & say as though they really know boxing or ever fought b4 in the ring.”he the 1 that didn’t want this fight as bad as he thought that he did or just b/C he dominated all his other opponents.” He should hv did the same 2 Floyd despit his ducking & moving his head around.” It’s what ever it takes 2 win a fight its not how u won that counts but that u won.” The ring ain’t that big & all he had to do was cut off the ring & he did it a few times & got in good on Floyd but he stopped.” So ppl can count on that he wasn’t ready 4 Floyd all the want 2 but had he beat Floyd it would hv bin a much different conversation now wouldn’t it had? Hmmmmm? If Floyd win or lose ppl will still always hv something 2 say.” Anybody In their right mind that know a lot about boxing instead just looking at it on tv knows that Canelo can’t beat Floyd if he had 6 more fights.” He got tired in his last fight & ran out of wind.” So he definitely aunt ready 4 Floyd on that lever of his conditioning b/c dnt know body in the sport work out as hard as Floyd do.” So the more negative talk about Floyd only makes him more popular.” Hey like the saying goes if u can’t beat him.” Them join him & stop hating b/c he is the 1 going back home with his millions while small ppl sit here & Trash talk him mean while u are the ones that has 2 go back 2 work the next day 2 continue 2 struggle & slave & that’s y he can do what he wants & fight they way he wants b/c he dnt hv no 1 to answer 2 on this earth as most PPP do.” Lol! He ain’t undefeated no reason.” I guess every fighter he fought was a bum huh? Lol! He is getting older so these younger fighters should be able 2 take some advantage of that! Hmmmmm? Lol!!! Do let me hear all the haters respond back with all ur trash talk!! Lol’

  2. Continuing from my last post…..

Canelo? I think canelo needs at least one more year, i will give it more but mayweather might retire soon.
Even tho trout lost he could make a good opponent for mayweather.
Martinez is good but age caught up to him. Sad Story.
Now GGG Golovnik is the real deal in my opinion and most will dodge him.

  3. Guerrero had no business being in there with mayweather in the first place. Hell he shouldn’t have gotten past berto. But guerrero did played the system by clinching and punching. Now thats the result when he tought it would work again, agains mayweather.
They hyped guerrero just like victor ortiz just for their touchy background stories.
Props to mayweather. But i want to see him fight some on with skill.
    Not overhyped cotto.
    Not little marquez.
Not overhyped ortiz. Which he showed his true colors in the maidana fight. Not surprised he kissed mayweather.
Not just because my wife beat cancer Guerrero. Im not gonna say over hyped but im gonna say he needed a few years more for improvement.

  4. Haha yea only true boxing fans know this sure my boy . U keep being A TRUE BOXING FAN and making this dodger dodge
