Floyd Mayweather Jr., Oscar De La Hoya and Showtime have confirmed Mayweather Jr. will fight “Canelo” Alvarez on Sept. 14th. It was announced Wednesday thru there social networks.
The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at 152 pounds.
“I chose my opponent for September 14th and its Canelo Alvarez. I’m giving the fans what they want. It will be at the MGM Grand,” Floyd Mayweather posted.
Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs), who will be 23 by the proposed September 14 fight date, is considered one of the top fighters at 154 after unifying two world titles. In his last bout, he decisioning Austin Trout on April 20th in a jam-packed Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) is also coming off a spectacular win against interim titleholder Robert Guerrero. Floyd literality schooled the kid from Gilroy, California.
Do you think it’s too soon to put Canelo against the number 1 pound for pound in the world? Then again, on paper, Alvarez could be Mayweather’s biggest test ever?

I agree. How can people understimate canelo. Before he joined Golden boy i saw canelo at the age of 18 outbox fighters he couldnt take down. I mean the guy just showed against trout hes not a static fighter but a dynamic one at best. People were surprised becuase he came with such a good defense, hell they will be surprised by the footwork he has, he just hasnt showed it jet since he started fighting in the U.S.
I am happy to see this fight happen,and sad to see so many who under estimate Alverezs ability even Egar who i have so much respect for. We all see Alverez as the kid next door not the brutal body puncher and power he has in both hands. I have more worry about him fighting matheyees than i do around run around floyd. I would love to see this match in person, which I most likely will do,and would muuch rather it be fought in a 6 x 6 ring so mayweather cant run away.
I just want to give credit when credit is due… I’ve never been a big Mayweather fan but this guy has been fighting fighters that come out of big wins over and over and that is the way it should be!! My respects and thank you Mayweather for giving us the fights we want to see! … And before anybody brings in the Pacqueao one, I don’t believe that was entirely his fault…
This fight is all about cashing $$$ in on the moment, and the money this bout will generate is going to make all the participating party’s very, very happy ! Mayweather will win a 12 round decision, I think that Floyd could stop Alvarez if he really desired to do so, but he won’t. Canelo will look good in pressing the fight, and this, his first loss, will not diminish his popularity or fan base one bit . After the fight it will be said, “Canelo wasn’t ready for this huge test yet “, and , ” Canelo was too young, needed more seasoning “, and, “Oh well, he was fighting the best pound-per-pound fighter on earth, one of the true greats, and he gave a great account of himself !” Floyd wins in 12 making sure not to inflict too much damage on Alvarez, Canelo gets a little banged-up, and everyone makes lots of “money”!

Yeah it might be too soon but Canelo can’t wait much longer because Maywether is getting old and if they don’t fight now it may never happen. (Maywether retires) Its worth the risk. 1 loss ain’t nothing if the only person to ever beat you was Floyd Maywether..
this is whats going to happen canelo is going to get out boxed for the first 3 rounds and than hes going to start to lose respect for floyds power so hes going to start walking floyd down while getting hit at the same time if he can hit floyd with a powerful shot which he has the power too can change the whole fight but most likely canelo will be hit more times than hes ever been hit and lose to a decision

I too think its to early for Canelo to fight Floyd. Its going to be another Mayweather vs Robert Guerrero outcome.
Since the beginning of Canelo’s career I have always said he’s ready for the next one, he has the power to KO Mayweather and even wear him down, some say Canelo is not ready and yes I agree it was close with Trout, but it was done! I surely see Canelo as an intelligent fighter with the right people behind him, I will be there watching to see his Victory!
Why does everybody think that Canelo has a good chance of winning?.. Other than Trout and a broken down Mosley, who else has he fought. I’m not saying the kid is not good but he is not going to outbox Mayweather he does not have the stamina to rough handle him for twelve rounds and he has not shown any signs that he is bringing anything new or different that is going to crack Mayweather’s defense. This is going to be a twelve round fight with a unanimous decision for Mayweather and the kid’s first loss…. SO YES, I believe it’s a little to soon for this match!!
