Its been slow the past few weeks for us boxing fans, however there have been some interesting boxing news like how Miguel Cotto moved back to Top Rank and with Freddie Roach in his corner. This was a shocker for me. Top Rank originally signed Cotto back after the 2000 Olympics and parted ways after Bob Arum was on Antonio Margarito’s side when Cotto lost via 10th-round knockout in 2011 to the “Tijuana Tornado”.

Switching training is something Cotto likes to do when he loses but with Freddie Roach? Wow. Most of all, Roach’s fighters have been on a losing streak. Cotto will return on HBO on October 5 in Florida against Delvin Rodriguez in the junior middleweight bout.Alvarado

Though I am not looking forward to this tune up fight, it will be interested to see what Roach can bring to the table.

In other boxing news, Mike Alvarado returns October 19 against Ruslan Provodnikov on HBO. According to Provodnikov’s promoter, Artie Pelullo, the fight will take place in Alvarado’s hometown of Denver.

I am not a big fan of Provodnikov but I did like his last performance against Timothy Bradley though he lost a razor thin twelve round decision. I think he won more fans.

If I was going to make a bet, I will lean towards Mike Alvarado to win. I like Alvarado’s style. His last fight against Brandon Rios was a spectacular fight and showed that he is more than just a brawler.

I am definitely looking forward to October. We have Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Timothy Bradley scheduled to take place on October 12 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

What fight are you looking for in October?
