Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. arrived into Los Angeles Friday night from Mexico for a press conference to announce his upcoming fight against contender Brian Vera. Chavez vs. Vera will take place, Saturday, September 28, at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, Calif. and will be televised live on HBO.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place September 7, but Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. sustained a cut on his right eyelid in sparring that apparently result in the postponement.

Here’s my personal thoughts…

I don’t think it was the paper cut over his eyelid that cause to postpone. Looking at the above photo taken on Friday, Chavez looks FAT!

I think he couldn’t make weight and that is why they pushed the fight back. There will always be speculation that Chavez can’t get down to the 168-pound limit.

I had been covering boxing for several years and I have never seen a boxer give so many excuses like Chavez. He is always getting sick or getting hurt….

Cesar Chavez Jr. cancelled his fight with Pawel Wolak due to high fever.

His fight with Ronald Hearns was cancelled due to a cut on his right hand that he sustained from a ceiling fan.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. also pulled out from a fight with Jason LeHoullier after suffering a rib injury.

Just to name a few.

His weight has always been a big factor. When Chavez was booked for his drunk driving on Jan 22, 2012, he was listed as weighing 175lbs, not sure how he lost 15 pounds in 10 days to make the 160lb limit when he faced Marco Antonio Rubio.

Chavez tested positive for marijuana after his first professional loss against Sergio Martinez. In 2009, Chavez tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic that can be used by fighters to help cut weight.

According to Chavez, eight days before his fight, he was hospitalized when he became dizzy during a training session during which the medical staff overseeing him pumped glucose and vitamins into his body.

Chavez is either clumsy or a walking virus that needs to be living inside a bubble. I won’t be surprised if his fight with Brian Vera is cancelled.

What are your thoughts on Chavez Jr?
