Golden Boy’s 6-Pack of Fighters

BeerBottles

Many boxing aficionados collect souvenirs such as fight programs, autographed gloves, vintage photos and more. Well, in my latest “Chatter Box” column, I finally found the highly-anticipated Corona beer bottles touting the images of a six-pack of boxing stars. And this “hot collectible” is actually ice-cold beverages!

Showcased on these special limited-edition glass bottles are Danny Garcia, Erik Morales, Peter Quillin, Bernard Hopkins, Miguel Cotto and Abner Mares. These full-color collectibles come in the 18-packs of Corona Extra Boxeo/Golden Boy Promotions cartons.

After first hearing about these cool collectibles back in June, I’ve called around various liquor stores and markets searching for these sought-after Corona bottles. No one had them in stock as they’ve been snatched up quickly by customers. Not giving up, I finally scored a couple of boxes at a gas station near Vegas. Piled up on the floor, I caught a glimpse of the blue and yellow boxes with the champs staring back at me.

Beer and boxing have always been a one-two combo for the boxing crowd. And now a team of six gladiators can line your collectible book shelves–or inside your fridge. Yep, it’s the Erikultimate collectible for any fight fan.

And these frosty brews come with labels of the famed fighters, who are very relevant in today’s fight game. Five of the prizefighters have fights coming up: Danny Garcia (September 14), Peter Quillin (October 26), Bernard Hopkins (October 26), Miguel Cotto (October 5) and Abner Mares fights THIS Saturday, August 24.

Each bottle has two photos of the warriors on the front and back, a replica signature of the fighter, a boxing glove intertwined with the Corona logo and their stats such as height, weight and nationality. A “pound-for-pound” brew in 12 ounce bottles.

THIRSTY, ANYONE?

I have to say, these 18-packs are a brilliant marketing concept. Perfect for summer, they rolled out in stores in mid-August in 32 states. They will be available through October but according to all reports, the beer has been flying off the shelves.

Whether you keep the bottles in “mint” condition (unopened) or enjoy the popular Mexican cerveza is up to you. Now you can choose to wash your nachos down with a thirst-quenching Quillin or perhaps guzzle down a refreshing Hopkins? Pick your favorite boxer.

You’ve heard of “Breakfast of Champions”? Well after collectors get a hold of these new collector’s items, Corona may become known as the “Drink of Champions”!
