After two consecutive losses to Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout, Cotto still proved he can pack a house even outside of Madison Square Garden; this time it was a pro Puerto Rican crowd in Orlando, FL at the Amway Center against Delvin Rodriguez. Cotto (38-4) made short work of the over matched Rodriguez (28-7-3), knocking him out with a vicious left hook in the third round.
I hate to sound like a boxing romantic but I felt very content about Miguel Cotto’s performance last night. Granted, it was against a lower level fighter in Delvin Rodriguez; regardless, it has been a long time since boxing fans have seen the fire Cotto displayed last night. Cotto has been lackluster in the ring the past several years and unfortunately went away from his shield in recent fights, specifically abandoning the vicious body shots and left hooks boxing fans have come to love about Miguel Cotto over the years. Well, thanks to new found dedication, a second wind, new trainer Freddie Roach, or whatever may be, Miguel Cotto is back on his shield and is right back in the mix after last night.
Before the fight, many people including ESPN’s Dan Rafael were predicting Cotto would come in and get a UD against Rodriguez, not expecting to see an aggressive version of the old cloth of Cotto we saw last night. I can’t say I was expecting it myself; however, after seeing it and the new relationship with trainer Freddie Roach, I am very excited to see what happens from here. We all know who the best in boxing is, but this version of Miguel Cotto spices things up significantly, be it a rematch with Floyd Mayweather, Cotto getting his revenge against Austin Trout, or a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico match-up with Canelo Alvarez (this is actually my vote and was my vote prior to the Canelo vs. Mayweather fight for the record, as it was for many of you).
Freddie Roach made comments to the Associated Press hinting at a rematch with Floyd Mayweather indicating, “that if he (Cotto) were in the shape that he’s in right now he would have won that fight, so I’m sure he would definitely welcome a rematch.” During last night’s post fight interview with Max Kellerman, in reference to who Cotto is ready to fight next; Roach said, “Line’em up!”
Cotto sells tickets and he is good for boxing. He is good from a fan perspective, a human perspective, and a professional perspective, and I am excited to see where this last push with him and Freddie Roach goes. I just can’t help the boxing romantic in me.

If he fights aggressive with Body punching. Freddie’s right line um up baby. Cotto is what a great prize fighter should be! He’s gone tones of class. Which U.S.A. citizens would love if Mayweather had some.most u.s.fans route for foreigners because class doesn’t come from any Mayweather!
I’m with you, I’d love to see Cotto vs Canelo. This would be a good test for BOTH of them. Cotto making a come back and Cael that in my opinion still hasn’t fully proved him self with his resume. He lacks big name opponents. Other than
Mayweather and “Trout” there is nothing else to him. A fight with Cotto would look good if he manages to win…
