Timothy Bradley won a twelve round split decision over four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Though we didn’t see a knockout, Bradley was the more active fighter and stuck to his game plan. The 40-year-old Marquez didn’t unleash any heavy artillery as he tried to adjust in the later rounds but couldn’t land a solid punch.

Bradley won 116-112 on one card and 115-113 on another while a third judge had Marquez winning 115-113.

“I didn’t think the fight was close. I felt I controlled the fight. I was confident about getting my hand raised for the most part,” stated Bradley during the post fight.

During the rounds Marquez’s trainer Nacho Beristain kept insuring Marquez that he was winning the fight. In my personal opinion that is why Marquez lost because he didn’t want to risk since “he was winning the fight” according to Beristain.

“I came to win,” said Marquez after the fight. “I felt that I did win. The judges took it away from me. I did my job. I’ve been robbed six times in my career.”

“When you come to Vegas you need to get a knockout. The judges are more dangerous than the opponents. I want to thank all the Mexican people who came.”

Marquez is starting to sound like a broken record always accusing the judges of robbing him.

Bradley was the aggressor most of the night and though my money was on Marquez, its fair to say Bradley did win.

  1. I think marquez
Looked really good for a forty year old. But he came in prepared to fight pacquiao and what he found was a guy who made him chase instead of wait for the “lucky punch”.

  2. I am a big fan of JM Marquez and I also believe that he got screwed out of some fights but not with Bradley. He lost this one fair and square. His style is counter punching and Bradley was just too busy. Marquez never threw good solid combinations because Bradley kept him on defensive most of the fight with the steady jabs and combinations. I think Bradley gain some fans and I’m one of them.

  3. I agree that Bradley won and that he simply outworked the 40 year old Marquez. I disagree that he sounds like a broken record as he’s been robbed in the past in Vegas and he has good reason to be suspect of the judges. Also, his trainer Nacho was telling him he was winning. I bet after he watched the fight he might be singing a different tune however…maybe not. Bradley deserves props and I’m becoming a big fan as he ducks no one and just wins.
