“Now I’m considered top 3 in the world now”

Timothy Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs) stated after his split decision win over future hall of famer Juan Manuel Marquez. While a case could be made that Bradley is top 3 pound for pound behind both Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward as Bradley stated. Sergio Martinez may have something to say about that as well.

No matter where Bradley likes to put himself in the p4p rankings-The obvious fact is Bradley is a fighter to be reckoned with, at least in terms of being one of the best 147lb fighters out there. Yet for all the talent and wins Bradley has attained. does he move the needle? Does his wins over Manny Pacquiao and now Marquez make Bradley a must see fighter?

No. Two words.

Twelve knockouts.

While Bradley has all the tools to be a great boxer he also lacks next level power and even though boxing fans appreciate and enjoy the aggressive style of Bradley his lack of knockout power leaves him hoping to find an audience other than the hardcore boxing fan that enjoys 12 round fights. Unfortunately the causal fan is not too interested in fights going the distance and with Bradley it is almost guarantee his fight will go to the cards.

And it’s unfortunate. Bradley is an exciting fighter, knockout power or not. His in your face, fast tempo style likens him to the aggressive Mexican fighting style. A style that rarely allows room for breathing or for an opponent to get into a rhythm but it is also grinding and at times boring. No matter the case, Bradley earned his win this past Saturday night and while he may not be top 3 yet, the way he keeps winning he will eventually get that number 3 spot.

  1. One thing he has going for him is his “undefeated” record. If he can keep that going people will start watching his fights. Either appreciating his fight or for the curiosity of seeing who will end that streak. Both ways he had people watching him. Mayweather is the example. Although some people find him boring their curiosity still makes them pay to watch him fight. Bradley is still far from that level but is looking good so far..
