This Saturday night, March 1, from Alamodome in San Antonio Julio Cesar Chavez Jr gets back into the ring to face Brian Vera for the second time in 6 months. The first time around Chavez Jr won a questionable unanimous decision. While many argue that Chavez won rather easily during the first get go Vera also put considerable pressure on Chavez to make most rounds closer than usual. However in the end Chavez won on all three judges scorecards.
This time around much of the speculation is whether or not Chavez Jr has finally learned his lesson. Positive drugs tests, questionable training methods and little to no effort has seemed to haunt the silver spoon fed Chavez the past few years. While Chavez Jr is saying all the right things; The question becomes “has” he really learned what it takes to be champion and even more so to be a professional?
Chavez Jr should get past Vera once again come this next week and if he wins in convincing fashion it will quite the talk from naysayers for a little bit, but he should beat Vera, he is the better fighter. However after the win, how he carries himself from here on out is what will be the bigger question. Will Chavez Jr go back to being the unmotivated fighter most knew him as or is he a changed man and fighter.
Saturday night has the stage to answer his critics. Unless of course he fails to make on Friday.
I like Chavez Jr, but I don;t feel he has the power and the killer instinct that his ole man had, i doubt it. He’s a good fight, even almost a great fighter but he should be very selected in fighting the best opponents. A fight against a top guy like GGG is insane I can’t see how he can win.He has raw talent, but not the ferocity and the ability to push himself in the later rounds against a tough opponent .. I completely agree with Ismael he lacks discipline, and he is not hungry enough to be a real contender. But OH!!! He won one the last round when he fought Maravilla therefore, that makes him a champion contender. WHAT A JOCKE!!! He and Canelo are only a product of two television companies.
Smoke and mirrors, I dont know? He almost beat arguably one of the best pound for pound boxers…if there were more time on the clock I wonder what we’d be saying about him now?
No… he’s a sham. He lacks speed and stamina..and his training is suspect. The guy can’t make weight and doesn’t try. He outweighs his opponents by 20 pounds everytime he steps in the ring. He’s that employee that misses when he wants, gets to work late and leaves early, but still gets the bonus money. The guy is in do or die fights with journeymen … lol. Sooo, no…he’s no where near championship material. Sooner or later, someone’s gunna brutally Ko this guy… and that will be that.
