Three-time world champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico and WBC world Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez from Argentina pose during a press conference in New York City during the national media tour for their eagerly-anticipated World Middleweight Championship collision which will take place on Saturday, June 7, at the “Mecca of Boxing,” Madison Square Garden. Both fighters will continue their media tour to Los Angeles on Wednesday.

“I am looking forward to this fight because a win will be historic in Puerto Rican boxing history as I become a four-time world champion in four different divisions,” said Cotto.

“I hope that Sergio is 100 percent and his knee is fine, because I want no excuses after I defeat him. The Garden holds a very special place in my career, and I know that my fans will there to support me in this quest.”

Martinez required a second surgery after having damaged the knee injury, later determined to be a torn right meniscus, during the Murray fight.

“Puerto Rico has a rich boxing history and I am looking forward to fighting and beating one of their best,” said the 39-year-old southpaw, Martinez. “I will prepare to give the fans a great night of boxing and because of our styles this will be a great fight.”

  1. I was at one time a Cotto fan but not now, he needs to either raise to the occasion or to hang em up, I think his prime was a few fights back when he fought Packman, he seems to have slipped in many ways and doesn’t have the heart he once did,. He screwed himself late in his career when he switched trainers, it should have been done right after his loss to Packman … Peace … Theboxingdictionary.com … The Language of the Ring “

  2. Martinez by KO in 9. Cotto is slower, smaller, and the less powerful of the 2. Cotto is the tough as hell thats why I give him 9 rounds and the fact that Martinez been out for a while.

  3. Buena suerte a los dos. Que triste de verdad que el CAMPEON tenia que aceptar cosas tan tontas para hacer la pelea ! THE CHAMPION has the right to call the shots, not the challenger. I really lose a touch of respect for Cotto for this having happened.
More Boxing B.S. that continues to kill the Sport we love.
