The “Chatter Box” is helping to spread the word about a weekend bash taking place THIS Sunday in the City of South Gate. For boxing fans in Southern California, this day will be an action-packed festival with a Meet & Greet with the champions. This event is FREE and open to the public, so come one, come all!

Presented by Supreme Boxing, the World Boxing Council (WBC), WBC Cares and the Junior Foundation Charities, the afternoon will also honor Israel “El Magnifico” Vazquez. Special guests invited to attend are: Mauricio Herrera, Gabriel Ruelas, Joseph Diaz Jr., Leo Santa Cruz, Carlos Molina, Miguel Vazquez, Jesus Soto Karass, Giovani Segura, Julian Ramirez, Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson and more. There will many other boxing luminaries lending their support including invited guests like “El Boxeo” team including the filmmaker and veteran fighters featured in the movie.

And boxing aficionados can get free autographs and photo ops with the pro fighters, Olympians, champs and celebrities who will be there! This bash will be held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Magnifico Boxing Gym, owned and operated by WBC Super Bantamweight Champ Israel Vazquez. Israel trains young fighters as well as being a ringside commentator at Thompson Boxing Promotions fights and more.

Besides the knockout lineup who are ready to bump fists with the fans, this special fundraising event live entertainment, music, food booths, T-shirt sales, Cleto Reyes boxing gear, souvenirs, commemorative posters, raffles, auctions and more. Guests can sample new products while benefiting the charity and the memory of Angel Santos, who passed away recently. Little Angel was declared an “WBC Honorary Champion” and before his passing had bonded with Israel Vazquez, a WBC Ambassador for Peace. “El Magnifico” had visited with the youth and his family, bestowing upon him a special green and gold championship belt.

This afternoon I caught up with Nancy Rodriguez, the organizer of the upcoming inaugural fiesta with Supreme Boxing and the WBC. She and her team have been relentless in making sure all the details are ready for this Sunday. I’ve been to a couple of Nancy’s charity events (in Agoura Hills and South Gate) and I know this Sunday will also be a KO success, thanks to Rodriguez’s dedication to always going the extra mile.

“I can’t take all the credit,” the humble Community Relations rep tells me. “We’ve built an amazing team.”

The South Bay resident juggles all of her boxing work along with raising four young children with husband, Lalo Rodriguez. Nancy has also been honored to be working with the famed WBC organization and new president, Mauricio Sulaiman. This Sunday, the team will sport green ribbons in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. The weekend gathering is also timed in celebration of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Mike Alvarado clash at the historic Forum in Inglewood.

For fight fans, Sunday will be a fun day as they get a chance to see their ring heroes up close and personal!

Check out my chat with Nancy as this Meet & Greet and Award Tribute to Israel Vazquez.

Michele Chong: Hi Nancy! Tell me how Supreme Boxing first came to be?

Nancy Rodriguez: Our team (Supreme Boxing), we started as a group of five with Hector De La Cruz, Victor Martinez, Alicia Magana, Javier Zendejas and myself. Our joint efforts with Angel Santos brought us together with the WBC, Golden Boy, Ramiro Gonzalez, Top Rank, Ricardo Jimenez. Because of that, our team has grown. And their dreams (with Jennifer Arredondo, Diana Garcia, Adriana and Rodrigo Jimenez, Arnold Vazquez, Israel Vazquez) have combined with ours, which has led to our current Supreme Boxing Team.

MC: How did you get inspired to organize this event?

NR: This event event was inspired by our WBC Champion Angel Santos and his amazing family. As he handed over this torch to us, we have made made a commitment together with the WBC, Junior Foundation, and the support of promoters such as Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions as well as Bob Arum and Top Rank. The fighters from both promoters have joined forces together with us bringing down barriers for the common good.

MC: What are you most looking forward to on Sunday?
NR: To fight the battle against cancer. This has been most inspirational to us all. We’re looking forward to honoring those who honor is due. With all humility we are blessed to present these special awards to the people that are well deserved of them.

This is for us very important to show honor where honor is due. And remembering our fallen champion Angel Santos and his family. For their courageous example of how to live the true life of a champion!

MC: I think you will have a great crowd on Sunday. Thanks again, always good to catch up with you!

NR: Thank you so much!
