New film premieres on ESPN Tuesday!

I hope everyone’s having a great long Labor Day weekend and taking a break from work! If you’re reading this then you’re not taking a break from boxing…and if you love the sport like I do, be sure to check out a new Mike Tyson documentary premiering Tuesday night on ESPN.

“One Night in Vegas” will be showcased in the network’s documentary series “30 for 30,” films from 30 various filmmakers telling stories from the sports world in a three-decade period from 1979-2009. I have seen several of their past “30 for 30″ installments and they have been first-class productions, so I am really looking forward to seeing this new one on Tyson–and rapper Tupac Shakur.

And what more can be possibly said about “Iron” Mike you may be thinking? And what was his association with the infamous rap superstar?

Mayweather apologizes for racist act

Mayweather continued to mispronounce Pacquiao’s surname, repeatedly referring to him as “Pooch-ee-ow.” But a day after making racist and homophobic comments on uStream, Mayweather offered an apology to those who were offended.

This is the same Mayweather who called the HBO broadcasting team racist with absolutely no evidence, the same Mayweather who called his multi-million-dollar contract with HBO “slave wages.” Mayweather can apologize all he wants and claim he “didn’t mean it.” We know better.

“I do want to apologize for what happened the other night,” Mayweather said. “I want to apologize to everybody. They felt it was a racist comment that came from me. I don’t have a racist bone in my body, you know. I love everybody. Some of my guys are Muslims. Some of my guys are Jews. Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, whites, it doesn’t matter. There is nothing but love in my heart, you know what I’m saying?

Video of Floyd Mayweather Talking Smack on Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather posted a video on YouTube and Ustream just to talk smack on Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather repeated his assertion that Pacquiao uses performance-enhancing drugs and calls him names. Warning Explicit Language.

“I’m on vacation for about a year, about a year,” Mayweather said. “As soon as we come off vacation, we’re going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain’t worried about that. So they ain’t gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don’t want you all to jump on my d—. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. … Once I stomp the midget, I’ll make that mother f—– make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.”

But Mayweather sure made it sound as though the fight with Pacquiao, boxing’s biggest bout and the fight many believe will shatter all revenue records in boxing history, will eventually happen. They have already had two rounds of negotiations fail — in January and again during the spring.

What an Embarrassment!

This past Saturday, James Toney got his ass kicked in the co-main event of UFC 118. Randy Couture in a heart beat dropped Toney with a shot for a single leg takedown. Toney wasn’t able to get a single punch off before finding himself in trouble within the first 20 seconds of the round.

Couture locked up an arm triangle and began to squeeze the lights out of Toney. Couture simply moved in to side control to finish the fight. Within seconds of getting side control, with the arm triangle locked in, Toney began “waving” for the tapout just 3 minutes and 19 seconds of the first round.

Many UFC fans were giving credit to Toney for actually going into the Octagon, an eight-sided mat and cage, but for us boxing fans, it was a embarrassment, supposedly he dropped 40 pounds just to enter the Octagon at a bloated, bubbly 237.

James Toney, I Hope You Get Your A$$ Kicked!

On Saturday, August 28, former world boxing champ James Toney will make his MMA debut against Randy Couture on UFC 118. Randy Couture is currently a 7-to-1 favorite against the 42-year-old rookie “Lights Out.”

I hope Toney gets his ass kicked. Ever since he switched to MMA, he became so cocky. I have personally seen Toney fights and he was always quiet and now he is just plain annoying. It doesn’t seem like Toney has his heart set on MMA but rather on the paychecks.

Check out this recent interview Toney did the other day with MMA Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani. Tony talked smacked on Bernard Hopkins saying his teeth are messed up and what not. After trying to take the reporter’s microphone away, he walks out of the interview like his too cool for this. Sorry buddy but I think the lights are already dimming for “Lights Out”.

Shaquille O’Neal vs Shane Mosley

As the Five-Time World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley gets ready to take on Sergio Mora on September 18, 2010 on HBO Pay-Per-View at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, Mosley took a tune up fight Tuesday night against a 7-foot-1, 335 pounds gorilla. Mosley was in the ring for the first time since his loss to Floyd Mayweather on May 1, but he’s opponent wasn’t just another chump, it was NBA superstar, Shaquille O’Neal.

O’Neal challenged Mosley in a hard hitting, five-round exhibition at the Caesar’s Palace Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Mosley and O’Neal had one common opponent, Shaq lost to Oscar De La Hoya back in August of 2009 while Mosley has beaten the “Golden Boy” twice. Shaq was coached by Hall of Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach while Shane had his father in his corner, Jack Mosley.

It was a close fight but at the end all three judges scored 48 to 47 making Mosley the winner by unanimous decision.

Will the Real Max Kellerman Please Stand Up!

I was watching the replay of Saturday’s “Boxing After Dark” and I have to admit Bob Papa and Max Kellerman are awesome commentators, especially Max Kellerman, he’s always straight forward and well spoken. Could it be that his career as a young rapper lead him to his successful career?

Many don’t know but in 1994 Max Kellerman used to be a bald old school rapper. You could compare him to Eminem, being rejected by most fellow rappers because of his race but like Eminem says, “To all the people who never gave love and continue to deny me ‘cuz of what I look like: suck my dick you fucks!!!”

Here is a rare video of Max Kellerman rapping with his younger brother Sam Kellerman, Sam died on October 17, 2004. The body of Max’s brother Sam was found near a hammer in his Hollywood apartment. As a result of the ensuing investigation, former boxer James Butler was arrested and charged with Sam’s murder. He later confessed to the murder and was given a 29 year sentence.

Was a Rematch Really Necessary?

Fast & furious Juan Manuel Marquez takes on Juan Diaz this Saturday night on HBO PPV in a rematch that I am not going to say is highly anticipated because I think it is all hype. I am not going to argue the fact that their first match up was named 2009 fight of the year by both Ring Magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America, but why the rematch?

When I think of a rematch, I think its necessary because the fight was controversial of who should have won but when Marquez secured a brutal ninth-round knocked out with his powerful right hand, there was no question who won.

Diaz came out strong and it was a grueling battle but Diaz got tired fast. What can Diaz possible do different? If he doesn’t brawl then it’s going to be a boring fight. Diaz has since fought twice against Paul Malignaggi, winning the first clash on points last August before the decision went against him four months later. Marquez was outpointed by Floyd Mayweather last September.

Video of Floyd Mayweather in Puerto Rico Cock Fighting

On a previous article I wrote, I stated that there was a rumor that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting Miguel Cotto and that Cotto’s team had scheduled a private meeting with Floyd Mayweather and his team. Well, it seems the meeting already took place in Puerto Rico.

Not only did Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his team fly to Puerto Rico to meet with Cotto’s team, Floyd was also spotted betting on cock fights during his stay. In this country the general public is extremely outspoken against animal cruelty. Just ask Michael Vick. Cock fighting is illegal in the US and a felony in 39 states. It’s the exact opposite in Puerto Rico where cock fights are regulated and the sport is considered a cultural right of Puerto Ricans.

Mayweather, whom many say is ducking Pacquiao to protect his unbeaten record and his ego, is enjoying his time off and if a few innocent animals have to get mauled in the process, so be it.

Mayweather’s Insecurity!

With promoter Bob Arum’s so-called deadline fast approaching for Floyd “Money” Mayweather (41-0, 25KO) to make his decision on whether he will fight Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38KO), I give my thoughts on Mayweather and a possible Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown which seems unlikely.

Though Mayweather battered former four-time world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-6, 39KO), in May, I still give Pacquiao a reasonable edge in a super mega-fight with Mayweather. That is an upgrade from the slight edge I have been giving “Pacman” the last year or so.

After seeing what I saw on May 1st against “Sugar” Shane, I could easily imagine Mayweather getting caught and hitting the mat from a big Manny left-hand or right-hook. Look, I’ll give “Money” Mayweather props for overcoming adversity and making the needed adjustments after getting buzzed by Mosley twice in the second round of their May tussle, though I must say I think it had a lot to do with Mosley that night and the fact that he was completely gassed after his sustained attack in the second round. Shane barely threw any punches after that and was an easy target for the remainder of the fight. I don’t know if it was the olympic style drug testing, his age, overtraining or what the deal with Mosley was but I have never seen a fighter gas out so abruptly.
