Ready to Shine on September 27!

Rising star Luis Rubalcava is stepping back in the ring on Saturday, September 27 at the Fox Pomona Theater in Pomona, Calif.
I caught up with the boxer nicknamed “El Diamante” at his promoter DMG’s private gym in North Orange County. He was training with his coach Juan Juarez Cruz who also just happens to be his brother-in-law. It is indeed a fighting family. I first met Juan when he was training Luis’ older brother Humberto “Filly” Rubalcava (who had 14 pro fights). And Juan’s wife Julie (Luis and Filly’s sister) was also a pro boxer who had 6 fights.
And now it is young Luis’ turn to shine in the ring. The featherweight (9-1, 3 KOs) will go six rounds with an opponent to be named soon. The Southern California boxer is signed by David Michery’s DMG Boxing Promotions and is looking forward to his bout on September 27. Already a big fan favorite, the local fighter and his team will be ready to give the local fans a good show. The event will also be streaming on millions.co
This “Night of Champions IV” will showcase several up-and-coming prizefighters including Rubalcava, Mathias Radcliffe, Ruben Cazales, Jose Casillas, Ezekiel Flores, Sam Isak and more.
On the day I visited the gym, Luis, 24, was training with coach Cruz alongside his stablemate and amateur boxer Munir Umar. “El Diamonte” had 130 amateur bouts before turning pro. And September 27 will be his third fight with new promoter DMG.
DMG matchmaker Ray Alcorta was also in the gym along with pro fighters Brandon Adams, Lawrence King, and September 27 fighters Cazales, Isak, etc.
Cruz says he has literally known Luis “since he was a baby.” The team usually trains out of Real Boxing Gym near Anaheim but on this day was working out of the new DMG gym in Fullerton. Putting in all the hard work, Luis “El Diamante” Rubalcava plans to look sharp on the canvas as he continues his rise in the sweet science.
Luis’ last fight was in June at the Soboba Casino and Luis won a unanimous decision against Ivan Zarate.
As September 27 approaches, the Westminster southpaw will be gunning for his tenth win as a pro and continuing his family’s legacy in the sport!
