Back in the Ring July 25

“Sugar” Shane Mosley will be back in the ring when he faces “Viking Samurai” David Kurzhal on July 25 at the Indigo at the O2 in London. Billed as a Hall of Fame Fight Night, this main event will mark the return of Mosley. The seven-time world champion and a multiple Hall of Famer has a very busy two months ahead of him with several prestigious events taking place.
Mosley and his July 25 co-main Victor Ortiz will be making an appearance at Dave & Busters in Ontario on June 21. The following day, the prizefighter will be inducted into the WBC Legends of Boxing Museum on June 22. Next, the Pride of Pomona will host his annual “Sugar” Shane Mosley Youth Boxing Camp on June 28, and then Shane will accept another honor as he is inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame on June 29. And on July 20 there will be a pre-fight presser in London.

Mosley has faced top names in the ring such as Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Ricardo Mayorga, Fernando Vargas and so many more. The former champ, 53, has 49 wins in his illustrious career and plans to add one more W on his record when he battles Kurzhal in the England this summer.

The fight promoters held a kickoff press conference on May 9 at the historic Cathedral in Pomona, Calif. Right2Fight Promotions (based in the United Kingdom) introduced their app to help support the fighters, give back to the community and also bring awareness in preserving the rhino species. Right2Fight’s CEO Jesse Moussa and COO Robert Lyle were in attendance along with announcer Radio Rahim, and the fighters on the July card: Shane Mosley vs. David Kurzhal and “Vicious” Victor Ortiz vs. Tony “The Rhino” Giles. Also on stage were fighters Joe “Hitman” Elmore, William Hill, Shane Mosley Jr. and trainer Jack Mosley. The World Boxing Council (WBC) championship belt was brought on stage by Rudy Tellez, who surprised the standing-room only crowd that Shane’s father Jack Mosley will also be inducted into the WBC Legends of Boxing.

Pomona’s Team Mosley has long been a part of the community and helping the underserved youth with their Mosley Foundation of Love organization. Shane’s sister Cerena Mosley spoke on behalf of the family and thanking the city and everyone for all their support.
On stage, the participants said that July 29 will feature real boxing matches that will be documented on BoxRec. They want to make it clear that their bouts are not celebrity boxing matchups and it is NOT an exhibition.
While Mosley’s opponent Kurzhal is known primarily as a martial artist, actor and bodybuilder, he said he is up to the challenge. And Ortiz’s rival Giles is mainly an MMA fighter but he also stated he’s willing to take that risk in the boxing ring.

After the Q&A and face-offs, there was a Meet & Greet with the fans that came out to see their favorite fighters.
There were also many former champs, martial arts legends, amateur stars, city officials and luminaries seated in the audience including Paul Banke, Gregory Puente, Robert Ortiz Sr., Robert “Scrappy” Ortiz Jr., Timothy Ortiz, Steve Harpst, Danny Lopez, John Edwards, Eric Lee, Gary Amen, Shante Hall, Blake “The Snake” Arriola, etc.
Shane Mosley is a veteran of the ring and on July 25 he aims to prove to the world that age is just a number!
